BFHI - Does it Work?

Now that the New Year is here, it is a good time to look forward and ponder what this year may bring. Do you sometimes wonder if all the hard work and changes your facilities are implementing for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) accreditation are actually working? Are mothers and babies getting better care? Is this care cost effective, and worth the effort?

Updated Welcome Emails

Our new eye-catching and easy-to-follow versions, show off our refreshed Step2 branding!  In the spirit of all things new, we have also renamed the emails to “Welcome to Step2 Education - Username and Password” and “Course Enrollment Information”.  Check them out!

Internet-based pregnancy & breastfeeding information - How reliable is it?

December 2014

The October/November issue of "Nursing For Women's Health" contains a very interesting article on a research study looking at internet use by women of childbearing age. The study included 42 women between the ages of 25 and 40 who were pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or had a baby under one year of age. Ninety-seven percent of these women said they used the internet to seek information related to pregnancy, parenting and child care, including breastfeeding. So just how reliable is the information out there for parents?

Breastfeeding in Disasters/Emergencies

A part of the Baby Friendly Initiative curriculum includes educating parents on preparedness in the event of a disaster - human-made or natural. Our course notes cover the basic advice (ES01 Topic 9.5). However, an important question for you to ask is, ‘Do parents leave our maternity care centers with a plan for infant feeding, should an unexpected disaster strike here?
Who is responsible to ensure parents are well informed? Should a disaster occur, would you and your team feel confident that parents would be provided with the support, knowledge, and resources, to keep their infants as safe as possible?

Change of Ownership

Since creating Health e-Learning in 2000, the GOLD Conferences in 2007 and (officially) Step2 Education in 2012, it has been our pleasure and privilege to serve the Lactation industry that we adore so very much. This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from https://step2education.com (the "Site").


When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. Additionally when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers), email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as "Order Information."

  • Users who are undertaking a course as part of a group or organization have certain data tracked as part of the service we provide to Clients and Facilitators. This includes information showing if you have logged in and when, dates of completion and what and when particular study topics, resources and assessments were viewed and completed. We refer to this information as "Student Access Information"

When we talk about "Personal Information" in this Privacy Policy, we are talking about Device Information, Order Information and Student Access Information.


We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

We use Student Access Information to provide accurate tracking to Users and Clients on completion and use of the courses, as well as for analysis on how to improve our services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).


We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, with your employer who needs to verify your completion or progress of your studies. Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.


As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. We are required to keep course completion records for at least 5 years in order to comply with certain accreditation requirements.
