The wooden rocking chair, by the window that overlooks the garden is one of my favourite places to rest - today’s contemplation: feathery snowfall.

As the new year begins, a conversation started about contemplation. A family member and I talked about our appreciation for nature and our appreciation of meeting and greeting new people for the first time, at family gatherings during holiday celebrations, for instance.

Not only did the talk bring the realization that we didn’t have the opportunity of doing so this year, nor last. But also, it offered a point of connection to an area pertaining to the BFHI/BFI implementation proces. Because many of us, by our workplace, naturally get to meet new people: Mothers, fathers, parents, babies, families.

As to better understand the nature of the connection, I wish to explore a specific point regarding the clinical practices that support breastfeeding/chestfeeding in maternal/parental-child-care settings. Namely helping to build maternal confidence[1] when making contact with families. Such as when introducing oneself to the parent-baby dyad.

Let’s start by saluting all who are working to develop skills that reinforce the building of parental confidence. We can see how that serves to render “best support”[2] in breastfeeding.

Seeing as health-care providers develop skills chiefly in the experience of offering counselling and support. For this reason, I would like to explore how a mentorship model had a positive influence on one’s acquisition of knowledge and learning of skills.

The story took place a long time ago. A parent-baby dyad sought consultation. Taken it was a new encounter, the consultant asked the parent if she|he could introduce her|himself to the baby, right from the start of the session. The parent consented, feeling valued and empowered by the means of one simple question - and changed for the better, as a result. In this case, the parent was privileged to work amongst parent-baby dyads him|herself.

Subsequently and ever since, upon meeting a new dyad the parent asks, in turn, if he|she could introduce him|herself to the baby. The approach was found to echo over the years. Perhaps because it is helpful in building maternal confidence[3] right from the start, with one simple question. Promoting thus a hoped-for empowering environment by the manner of greeting.

  • Users who are undertaking a course as part of a group or organization have certain data tracked as part of the service we provide to Clients and Facilitators. This includes information showing if you have logged in and when, dates of completion and what and when particular study topics, resources and assessments were viewed and completed. We refer to this information as "Student Access Information"

When we talk about "Personal Information" in this Privacy Policy, we are talking about Device Information, Order Information and Student Access Information.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

We use Student Access Information to provide accurate tracking to Users and Clients on completion and use of the courses, as well as for analysis on how to improve our services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

SHARING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, with your employer who needs to verify your completion or progress of your studies. As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you.
