Au cours du mois dernier, nous avons parlé de la façon de célébrer nos propres succès et d'amplifier ceux des autres - merci à tous ceux qui ont partagé avec nous vos célébrations de la SMAM et du Mois national de l'allaitement !
Prendre soin de l'aidant est souvent oublié et cela inclut trop souvent les besoins du personnel qui allaite ou allaite lui-même. Dans le dossier d'action de WABA pour la SMAM, il existe des liens importants pour rendre les lieux de travail accueillants pour les futurs et les nouveaux parents - en tant que travailleurs plutôt que patients.
En tant que défenseurs de l'allaitement, nous sommes appelés à faire valoir auprès des employeurs que les politiques favorables à l'allaitement et à la famille sont à la fois bonnes pour les affaires et bonnes pour la société. Dans quelle mesure les employeurs qui mettent en œuvre les “10 étapes pour un allaitement réussi” transmettent-ils cet engagement à leurs propres employés ?
Le module de l'OIT sur la création et le maintien d'un lieu de travail favorable à l'allaitement est un excellent point de départ avec des conseils pratiques qui s'appliqueront à de nombreux types de lieux de travail et de milieux cliniques dans le monde (disponible seulement en anglais). Quels types de mesures les employeurs peuvent-ils prendre pour faciliter que leur personnel répondent aux recommandations d’alimentation des nourrissons?
Les soutiens structurels qui permettent ces politiques et programmes spécifiques aux employeurs facilitent le progrès. Les pays qui imposent déjà au moins les recommandations de l'OIT sur le congé de maternité minimum et d'autres politiques favorables aux parents dans la loi imposent beaucoup moins de charge aux employeurs individuels pour créer des politiques homogènes qui soutiennent leur personnel. Quels que soient le point de départ ou les obstacles auxquels ils sont confrontés, les employeurs qui adoptent un lieu de travail favorable à l'allaitement découvriront qu'il existe de nombreux exemples dont s'inspirer et toujours de nouvelles opportunités pour modeler leur engagement envers leur personnel et leur famille.
