The wooden rocking chair, by the window that overlooks the garden is one of my favourite places to rest - today’s contemplation: feathery snowfall.

As the new year begins, a conversation started about contemplation. A family member and I talked about our appreciation for nature and our appreciation of meeting and greeting new people for the first time, at family gatherings during holiday celebrations, for instance.

As for many families, making New Year resolutions is part of my kinfolk’s holiday tradition. That, and playing board games while listening to folk music. The moment makes for a jovial atmosphere; nourishing, in turn, the motivation for engagement in doing something better for the new year.

I find that this activity ties in nicely with the dedication shown to the evolutionary process of BFHI/BFI implementation.

The art of assisting

In my area, the weather is crisp with frost at this time of year which incites to cozy indoors activities such as handcrafting. I looked, with awe, at my son’s dexterous hands weave the pieces of fabric together—A skill learned over time, from intergenerational hands-on projects.

Surely, the art of hand expressing breastmilk* was part of an intergenerational learning process, just as any other skill, like the art of weaving. May this observation pave the way to the topic of discussion: hand expression of human milk, this time, as part of an inter-professional teaching/learning process.

Details in the setting

Details matter. Contrary to the notion that details are a small and unimportant part of something.[1] Let us look at how details matter in the environment where early breastfeeding takes place.

In a recent blog[2] titled; The relevance of stance one can read: A newcomer to the neonatal team invites an experienced team member to observe and then reflect on the breast|chestfeeding assistance offered to the parent.

At home, snowy landscapes are setting in, bridging to wintertime outdoor activities. Meanwhile, it is a nice time for indoor activities — like sorting out photos, for example. I came upon a photograph that paved the way to the topic: The relevance of stance in our role in guiding parents.

To help explain; First, the meaning attributed to stance[1]; the way in which a person is standing| A person’s approach to (a particular topic). Then, the meaning of the photo (taken a while ago on an overseas trip, closer to the equator): I was wonder-struck when I saw the orientation of the crescent moon visible in the night sky.
