Smiling eyes

In a decidedly positive tone, recent experience teaches us to perceive a smile through a face cover — through smiling eyes.

This brings to mind the way smiles are emitted in telecommunication: telephony and computers. In the manner of communicating, revealing a sense of contentment, which those in the healthcare field certainly recognize and appreciate.

Little and Big

     -   “Grandpa.” Whose face lights up, “Have a nice day.”

The telephone call from a grandchild now grown up brought a radiant smile to the grandfather’s face.

Hence, the idea of transposing this representation into a context related to perinatology.

“Facilities providing maternity and newborn services should enable mothers and their infants to remain together and to practise rooming-in throughout the day and night. This may not apply in circumstances when infants need to be moved for specialized medical care.” (1)

On the road

Captivated by the new and changing landscapes on the outskirts of the countryside and cities; the time spent driving on the road is nourishing, and it is while driving that the idea for the background of this story emerged.

First, the context: A mechanical glitch. And, in the face of the unfamiliar situation, how to deal with the problem, even identify the referent and orchestrate the making of an appointment to seek advice on the indicated service and repair. From there, the thought turned to a work environment where individuals are implementing quality programs in perinatal care; BFHI/BFI for instance.

Weekend activities lend themselves to looking at old family photos. The “do you remember?” echoed amongst the gathers in the yard and led them to recall many fond memories.

For this presentation, memories: the recollection of an experience, refers to an image that may come to the minds of many actors working toward the implementation of practices that promote, protect and support breast/chestfeeding in a health care facility, for example.

It was actually a conversation overheard not too long ago that gave rise to the meaning of this narrative. Perhaps the theme presented will make you think about a piece of day-to-day work: that of a place where people who work there are implementing programs such as BFHI/BFI.

The topic discussed in the mentioned conversation: Education or the transmission of knowledge. And the ear hears “the Socratic method” even dialectic. The words expressed: the expert in the field being taught and the expert in teaching, seemed to waltz. From one perspective to the other.
