Length of Breastfeeding

Statistics for initiating breastfeeding are generally rising all over the developed world. Great! That’s definitely the first step. However, with the World Health Organization recommending a minimum of 2 years before complete weaning, and the major pediatric societies coming in with minimums between 1 and 2 years, most mothers are falling well short of that minimum recommended goal.

It's not every day that we welcome a new member to the Step2 team! We are so pleased to welcome Kathy Parkes, our online Lactation Tutor, to our small (but growing) team. As the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative builds momentum worldwide, we find ourselves with an increasing cohort of wonderful students who are participating in our courses. To ensure that we can create a stimulating environment to promote discussion, we have enlisted Kathy to facilitate our course forums.

We want to highlight a support channel you may not be aware of - see if you can guess which organisation we are talking about: Beginning 25 years ago, their ‘core partners’ are IBFAN, Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, International Lactation Consultant Association, Le Leche League International and Wellstart International. 1000 milesAchieving Baby Friendly status in your hospital can sometimes feel well beyond your ability, and far from your hospital or health organisations agenda. It is a huge undertaking and we’ve heard the word “daunting” being used by those approaching it. But the most fantastic quote which I often chant to myself, mantra style, when approaching daunting tasks is “a journey of 1000 miles, begins with a single step”.

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from https://step2education.com (the "Site").


When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device.   • Users who are undertaking a course as part of a group or organization have certain data tracked as part of the service we provide to Clients and Facilitators. This includes information showing if you have logged in and when, dates of completion and what and when particular study topics, resources and assessments were viewed and completed. We refer to this information as "Student Access Information"

When we talk about "Personal Information" in this Privacy Policy, we are talking about Device Information, Order Information and Student Access Information.


We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

We use Student Access Information to provide accurate tracking to Users and Clients on completion and use of the courses, as well as for analysis on how to improve our services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).


We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, with your employer who needs to verify your completion or progress of your studies.
