Breastfeeding Position Statement

Infant Formula Recalls

October 2015

As your facility prepares for Baby-Friendly, part of your job will include one-on-one parent education regarding artificial infant milks (AIM). With that in mind, did you know this:

"On September 22, 2010, Abbott issued a voluntary recall of certain Similac powdered infant formula after identifying a common warehouse beetle (both larvae and adults) in the finished product at their Sturgis, Michigan plant. The company immediately put all product manufactured at the Michigan plant on hold and ceased manufacturing at that location. FDA has advised against consumption of the recalled product and urged consumers to follow the manufacturer's instructions for reporting and returning the formula."

Maintaining Lactation

We had the privilege to attend the 2nd Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative for Neonatal Wards, Neo-BFHI conference in Uppsala, Sweden May 19 and 20, 2015. There were speakers, poster presentations and participants from 37 countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Palestine, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, UK, and USA).  And all came together to talk about how important BFHI is, including in the neonatal intensive care units.

This includes information showing if you have logged in and when, dates of completion and what and when particular study topics, resources and assessments were viewed and completed. We refer to this information as "Student Access Information"

When we talk about "Personal Information" in this Privacy Policy, we are talking about Device Information, Order Information and Student Access Information.


We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

We use Student Access Information to provide accurate tracking to Users and Clients on completion and use of the courses, as well as for analysis on how to improve our services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).


We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, with your employer who needs to verify your completion or progress of your studies.
